This site is a collection of my academic work. It holds my ideas, my biases, my opinions on what architecture should do.

I believe that architecture holds responsibility for shaping human interaction; as a result, certain types of architecture are more important to me, as they affect the urban experience and social interaction, intensely. At different points in my academic career, I dove deep into studying the histories of cemeteries, schools, retirement homes, affordable housing, mental health institutions, and prisons, because these buildings reflect how our society conceives of death, education, aging, class structure, mental health, and morality etc. It’s through understanding these typologies that we can start to understand how to move forward, and demand more from our government leaders, our policy makers, our planners, and our architects. I believe that we can not plan for a healthy built environment without talking about race and class; and I look forward to the hard conversations that move us forward. I gather much of my hope from the young people I teach, and let their frustrations and optimism fuel my work.
